SHOW DANCE our Newest Class for '07-'08
How to come up with a name that as it all? Simply put, we call our newest class, Show Dance. Taught by Judi Rodrigues, professional director and choreographer, this one-hour class is held on Fridays from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. and is offered to children ages 10 to 16.
Judi is a choreographer and a teacher who has staged and choreographed EVERY musical that Council Rock North has ever done. From West Side Story to The Goodbye Girl (with 20 musicals in between), Judi brings her incredible variety of styles, enthusiasm and experience to this class.
Students will learn dance routines from some of the greatest musicals ever performed. The music is wonderful, inspiring and good for the heart!
If experience in musical theatre is appealing to you, then this is the class for you.
LET'S SING, DANCE & ACT
Our Let’s Sing, Dance and Act Class is offered by Judi Rodrigues, the studio’s artistic director. The class is designed especially for the student who wants to be well versed in all aspects of performance.
Judi notes that many of our students are involved in school productions, talent shows, and community theatre shows throughout the school year. This class is designed to give them confidence, stage presence and a full understanding of the theatre arts - whether performing or auditioning. It is especially beneficial for any student who wishes to build self esteem and simply enjoy fun-filled classes.
Each one third of the season focuses on Voice, Theatre Movement (dance) and Acting. Our students love this class as they "get it all" in one class. We like to call the students who take this class our "total performers."
This class is designed for the student who "wants it all." Creative, inspiring, thought provoking and fun describe this class.
OUR BALLET/JAZZ CLASSES
We are the only studio we know of that teaches a combination Ballet/Jazz class. Set to beautiful classical and contemporary music, we focus on ballet barre work, center work, turns, leaps and jumps. In addition, proper body placement is emphasized. The second half of the class consists of high energy and upbeat combinations set to faster moving and more of a "free style" type of dance. Kids love these classes. It's the "all in one" approach to dance.
OUR TECHNIQUE I, II and III CLASSES
Our Technique classes are designed to give the students more strength, stamina and flexibility. We find that if our kids take the class, it enhances their abilities in other classes. We highly recommend a technique class to all our students. Poise and posture are key elements to this class. Judi teaches Technique I and Katie teaches Technique I and II. As always, classes end with a beautiful, lyrical combination.
HIP HOP AND JAZZ CLASSES
Kids love Hip Hop. It's a funky free-style type of dance that originated "on the streets." We use appropriate music (no bad thoughts or words) and we incorporate a variety of styles and improvisational movements. Hip Hop and Jazz are 2 different styles of dance, and we combine both disciplines in one class. After warm-ups, kids will learn a Hip Hop routine, and the next class a Jazz routine. Our kids look forward to both.
LYRICAL DANCE
What is lyrical? It is the interpretation of the music, the lyrics and the thoughts of the composer and the choreographer - transferred to the dancer who enhances the meaning through dance. Our studio prides itself in its approach to this beautiful form of expression. Today, it is recommended by dance authorities that their dancers take acting classes so they can express their emotions better when they dance. Not necessary in our studio. It comes naturally to Judi's approach to choreography. Our studio has a love of music (good music) and we transfer that love to our students through many forms of music and dance. Our students are exposed to good music whether they are at the barre, doing center work or dance combinations. So you can say our students are not only taking dance classes, they are exposed to music appreciation, too.
GROUP VOICE
(7-11 years old) Children love to sing! Why not expand your child's talent by having them study voice with Judi. We encourage our students to have multiple abilities in the performing arts. Students enrolled in this class will learn breath control, voice projection, diction and proper placement. They will learn popular songs and songs from familiar musical theatre. Of course, the class will perform in our show.
WEDDING DANCE
Let your first dance as husband and wife be something you and your guests will remember forever.
We have created over 260 unique wedding dances for happy couples everywhere. In the privacy of our studio, we can choreograph a wedding dance of your very own.
Couples bring in their "wedding song" and the rest is magic. After one hour, you will be confident and look great. Cost is $100.00 for one hour.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Are you aware that we do Birthday Parties at our Studio? Our students or their friends can choose a theme (Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Singing, etc) and learn a full routine (60 minutes). Then they party, great fun!
Minimum 10 kids at $12 per partygoer. They have a great time always. Convenient for moms and something different for the kids.
